The transaction includes the first and only commercial vaccine in Europe against swine dysentery caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, supporting Ceva’s commitment to disease prevention, reduced antibiotic reliance and more sustainable swine production.

Ceva strengthens its swine gut health portfolio

Ceva acquires Aquilón to reinforce its offer in the prevention of swine diseases, with a particular focus on gut health. The acquisition brings new scientific expertise and a commercial vaccine against a major enteric disease affecting pig farms worldwide.

Swine dysentery is a significant disease in pig production, associated with economic losses and increased pressure on farm performance. By integrating Aquilón’s expertise and solutions, Ceva further expands its ability to support veterinarians and producers with preventive health tools.

“I am delighted with this opportunity to further strengthen Ceva’s portfolio in swine gut health. Aquilón brings a solution that helps prevent an important disease and reduce reliance on antibiotics,” said Dr Marc Prikazsky, Executive Chairman of Ceva Santé Animale.

A Scientific expertise to support future innovation

Founded in 2012 and based in León, Spain, Aquilón is a spin-off from the University of León. The company specializes in research, diagnostics and the development of innovative biological solutions against swine diseases.

With more than a decade of experience in the applied study of the pig digestive system and vaccination solutions, Aquilón has successfully translated academic research into practical commercial applications for the field.

Following the transaction, Aquilón’s scientific teams will join Ceva, contributing their expertise to the development and deployment of new vaccines and diagnostic tools. This will help accelerate innovation in swine health and support more sustainable production systems.

Carlos Artigas, Director of Aquilón, commented: “We are proud to see our team and our flagship innovation find an ideal environment for their development within Ceva Santé Animale. Thanks to its global presence and strong technical capabilities, Ceva will provide decisive support for the development and commercialization of this solution.”
